oak9 Named a 2023 Built In Best Place to Work, Ranked 27th Among Top 50 Startups

Organization evaluated on three major components — compensation, benefits and culture

Press Release – CHICAGO March 2nd 2023

The technology sector’s talent shortage has given job seekers more options. Companies need to be competitive in order to attract top talent and that’s not just about pay. It’s also about offering benefits people actually want and having an environment that empowers employees to thrive.

oak9, a leader in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) security, has been rewarded for providing that. The company was named a 2023 Built In Best Place to Work and ranked 27th on the list of 50 Best Startups Companies to Work For.

“This recognition is validation of our mission and commitment to building a great place for oak9ers”

Kim Freier, Director of People Experience, oak9

Built In evaluates companies on three major components — compensation, benefits, and company culture. oak9 keeps up with market compensation, while taking a holistic approach. In addition to base salary, the company offers additional components of compensation including generous bonus packages, equity, health benefits, and continuing education. Having good health benefits to support employees and their families is essential. One example of where oak9 differentiates is its unlimited vacation policy, with an enforced two week minimum, so employees get time away to rest. The oak9 culture stems from its founding team, which prioritizes an inclusive environment focused on people instead of company roles.

The company’s most recent employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) survey score was 63 — typically, a score between 10-30 is considered good, and anything above that is considered excellent. An eNPS is a metric used to gauge an employee’s experience, loyalty, and engagement.

“This recognition is validation of our mission and commitment to building a great place for oak9ers,” said Kim Freier, Director of People Experience at oak9. “Last year we were still working on building a better benefits program, so to earn this recognition shows how quickly oak9 is able to pivot, make improvements, and implement changes.”

Recognition from Built In comes on the heels of oak9’s other recent accolades: It ranked 36th in Crain’s Chicago Best Places to Work List 2022, recently won a Chicago Inno Fire Award, was named one of the Top 15 Tech companies in Chicago 2023, and was recognized as a Top 101 Most Innovative Developer Platform Companies 2023
